History

Gazi University Institute of Researching and Preventing Accidents was established in 1983. The objective of establishment of the institute was defined in its charter published the Official Gazette dated 10 April 10984 and numbered 18368 as follows:

“The mission is to conduct research, education, and implementation regarding the accidents relating to traffic, work, agriculture, home, sports, and other types of accidents in our country and the epidemiology, demography, reasons of occurrence, protection and prevention, emergency aid for the survivors, and their treatments and rehabilitations, to establish accident and  emergency aid centers and dispensaries, to carry out legal, social, and economic arrangements for the disabled people, to carry out research and implementations for the procurement and making of the paraphernalia required for them, to hold scientific meetings, conferences, an seminars and to participate in them, to issue publications, and to establish national and international cooperation in the matters that are suitable with its objective, and to provide the society with services in these matters.”

In the institute, from its foundation to 1993, in the Workers Health and Job Safety Department, Demography and Epidemiology of the Accidents Department, Emergency Aid and Rehabilitation Department, Environmental technical Research of Accidents Department, and Traffic Planning and Implementation Department, it has provided postgraduate education in its respective programs. In 1993, three programs relating to health were transferred to the Health Sciences Institute and the other 2 programs related with engineering were transferred to the Science Institute. The Institute of Researching and Preventing Accidents have not had any students as of that date.
